Avengers 2 Already in the Works?

The upcoming The Avengers adaptation made an impression over the weekend at the New York Comic-Con where Chris Evans (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Agent Hill), and surprise guest Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner aka The Hulk) all made appearances alongside Marvel president of production Kevin Feige, with Feige making the biggest announcement by admitting that Marvel is already thinking about an Avengers 2.
[Iron Man 3] will be the first of what we sort of refer to as phase two of this... saga that will culminate, God willing, in Avengers 2.
While The Avengers has a while to go before it opens in theaters, Marvel has good reason to start thinking about a sequel based on reaction to the Avengers trailer, which was downloaded more than 10 million times in the first 24 hours from iTunes alone when it was released last week.
Feige said that he is currently at work on Iron Man 3, which will hit theaters in May 2013 (a year after The Avengers). He also revealed that The Avengers will continue the tradition of a post-credits or ending scene that sets up the next Marvel movie. "It's a nice tradition, and I like traditions, so I think we'll keep that up," said Feige, which has to be good news for Iron Man fans.
THR reports that Marvel also revealed some new footage from the movie which revealed a scene where Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) meets with Banner (Ruffalo) — here's the entire, spoiler-filled description — as well as shots of Stark Tower and snippets of footage that included a terse exchange between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Loki (Hiddleston).
Both Evans and Smulder admitted that the proposition of working on The Avengers was "extremely intimidating," and Smulders revealed that the panel was her fist Comic-Con experience. It's not likely to be her last. Smulders admitted late last month that she's been contracted to do "seven more" Marvel movies, though, she clarified, that the contract "doesn't mean I'm doing seven films — just means if they [Marvel] like me, then they'll have me on more."
Fans have yet to see much of Smulders as Hill, though as for what the difference will be between Hill and Agent Coulson, Gregg offered an explanation of the two characters that includes hangovers and Lollapalooza.
Missing from the panel were Downey Jr., Johansson, Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and writer-director Joss Whedon. Feige said that Whedon was currently working in the edit room for The Avengers, which opens May 4, 2012.
