Warner Bros. Taps Iron Man 3 Writer Drew Pearce to Pen Sherlock Holmes 3

We're still months away from the release of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and yet Warner Bros. (WB) is already making plans for the third installment in the franchise. According to Deadline, WB has selected hot British writer Drew Pearce (BBC's No Heroics) to pen the continuing adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Dr. Watson (Jude Law) in Sherlock Holmes 3 (working title). Pearce may not be a household name in America yet, but he soon will be. Marvel Studios hired him to write the unproduced teen superhero movie Runaways and, on the basis of that script, also hired him to write Iron Man 3, which will also star Downey, Jr. The deal is still being worked out, but Pearce is expected to accept the Sherlock Holmes 3 writing gig.
A Game of Shadows was written by the writing team of Kieren and Michele Mulroney (Paper Man) and, like the first movie, was directed by Guy Ritchie. It is set one year after the events in the first movie and centers around the villain Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris), who appeared briefly in shadows in the first movie as the employer of Holmes' former adversary and love interest, Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams). In Game of Shadows, Holmes and Watson race around Europe in a quest to stop Moriarty's diabolical plans, aided by Holmes' older, wiser, yet less motivated brother, Mycroft (Stephen Fry), and a cunning gypsy named Sim (Noomi Rapace).
