Dumb and Dumber Sequel Moving Forward

While it doesn't always seem like it these days, not everyone in Hollywood wants to make a sequel. However, after decades of aversion, writer/directors/siblings Bobby and Peter Farrelly admitted they were finally ready for a sequel and are working on a follow-up to 1994's Dumb and Dumber. "We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life," said Bobby at the time. "And hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel." It appears they did.
Deadline reports that the Farrellys have started to move forward with a sequel, hiring screenwriter-producers Sean Anders and John Morris (Mr. Popper's Penguins, Hot Tub Time Machine) to write the script. The sequel could be the Farrelys' follow-up to the upcoming The Three Stooges.
Of course, Dumb and Dumber did get an ill-fated prequel, 2003's Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, but that movie had nothing to do with the Farrellys. The proposed sequel would bring back Dumb and Dumber stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as dim-witted best friends Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, respectively.
Outside of the Ace Ventura movies, Carrey has also shunned sequels, but seems to be on board with this one as well. Carrey told ComingSoon in June that a Dumb and Dumber sequel was possible. "We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," Carrey teased. "...There's Bruce Almighty and we're talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber."
Whether Daniels will be convinced to take part is unknown, but we think it's likely.
