New Expendables 2 Set Photos; Mickey Rourke Explains His Absence

The first set photo that arrived online from the Bulgarian set of The Expendables 2 was Tweeted by Arnold Schwarzenegger and depicted the former California governor with co-stars Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone. With Schwarzenegger moving on to the production of Last Stand, the rest of the group are still hard at work, as evidenced by the recent crop of set photos that have arrived online.
The latest set pics reveal Stallone along with Expendables members Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren, as well as newcomers Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris. Missing from the photos are Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Mickey Rourke. But there's an easy reason why Rourke is absent: He isn't going to be in the movie.
A report from Deadline last month confirmed that Rourke wasn't going to be in the movie, citing another project being in the way of scheduling. During an interview with Crave Online, however, Rourke offered a different reason why he won't be in The Expendables 2.
Well, that’s another thing. Listen, I did the first one because I felt that I owed Sly a favor. He gave me a job in Get Carter when I couldn’t f**king shine my shoes, you know what I’m saying. And that was that. The other thing around that, I had never said I was going to be in it. I think the producers announced it but nobody discussed it with me.
Also missing from the photos is Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) who was cast as a sniper in the movie. We've posted a few of the photos below, most of which are of the cast posing with either extras or crew members of the sequel.
Expendables 2 was written by Ken Kaufman and David Agosto, and is being directed by Simon West (Con Air). Nicolas Cage and John Travolta were both rumored to be taking part, but it looks like neither will appear in the movie, but Scott Adkins (Undisputed III: Redemption) will be, playing another villain along with Van Damme.
