Though early festival screenings of French director Luc Besson's new biopic, The Lady, have been met with mostly lukewarm reactions, Michelle Yeoh's performance as Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been generating considerable Oscar buzz in advance of the movie's theatrical debut.
Written by Rebecca Frayn, The Lady is based on the true story of Aung San Suu Kyi's relentless non-violent campaign for democracy in Burma and her undying love for her British husband, Michael Aris (David Thewlis), who she was only able to see five times during the last ten years of his life because of his inability to return to Burma and her fear that she would not be allowed to return if she left the country to visit him in England. To see what the buzz is all about, check out two dramatic new preview clips from the movie.
Unfortunately, since the clips were released by EuropaCorp, the subtitles are in French, but nearly all of the dialogue is in English.
