The teaser trailer for the upcoming Disney/Pixar movie Brave was released in June, but not much has been heard about the movie since. Finally, Empire has released two new stills from the movie, giving Pixar fans something to look at before the movie opens next June (August in the U.K.).
Brave is a movie of firsts for Pixar, with the movie being the first to have a female protagonist as the main character, and the first to utilize the fantasy genre. Set in the Highlands of medieval Scotland, Brave follows the courageous princess Merida (voiced by Boardwalk Empire's Kelly Macdonald), who defies tradition and must resolve the chaos that follows her decisions and actions. The latest stills again show Merida, as well as a first look at the three lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).
In the photo below, Lords MacGuffin, Dingwall and Macintosh are featured from left to right. Following the photo is the movie's official synopsis which offers a more detailed look into the movie's story.
Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny, and the fiercest of beasts.
Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (Ferguson), and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
