Only days after we learned that Bill Nighy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) is in negotiations to play the primary villain opposite Aaron Eckhart (Battle: Los Angeles) in Lakeshore Ent.'s I, Frankenstein adaptation and that Socratis Otto (Anyone You Want) had joined the cast as a minor villain, more casting news has surfaced. According to THR, Yvonne Strahovski (TV's Chuck, Killer Elite) is "in final negotiations" to play the female lead in the movie and Miranda Otto (In Her Skin) has signed on in a supporting role.
Written by Stuart Beattie (30 Days of Night), who will also direct, I, Frankenstein is based on Kevin Grevioux's (Underworld) Darkstorm Comics series of the same name and takes place in the present day, albeit a present day populated by demons, zombies and gargoyles, among other creatures. The movie follows Dr. Frankenstein's monster, now called "Adam" (Eckhart), as it struggles to discover its humanity in a changing world. Adam is pursued by a demon prince (Nighy) and his lackey (Otto) who wish to discover the secret of his "life" and longevity so that they can create a demon zombie army. Assuming she joins the cast, Strahovski will play a human scientist experimenting with reanimating corpses who is unknowingly furthering the demon prince's agenda. Miranda Otto (no relation to Socratis) will play the queen of the gargoyles who attempts to aid Adam.
Principal photography on I, Frankenstein is expected to commence in Australia in January. The movie is slated to open February 22, 2013.
