Grrrls With Guns: New Still Images of Kate Beckinsale from Underworld: Awakening and Jaime Alexander from The Last Stand

The Kate Beckinsale-centric promotional campaign for Underworld: Awakening — both the first and second trailers have focused on Beckinsale's return to the franchise after sitting out of the 2009 prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and she is the only actor featured on the new poster for the movie — continues with a new still image of Beckinsale as the leather-clad vampire Selene hoisting a hefty gun at an assailant. In Awakening, Selene wakes from a coma to discover that she has a Vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter (India Eisley) and that humanity is finally aware of the existence of the two immortal species and is engaged in an all-out campaign to wipe the creatures from the face of the earth.
Underworld: Awakening was written by John Hlavin, Len Wiseman — producer and director of the first two Underworld movies, as well as husband to Beckinsale — and Allison Burnett, with rewrites by J. Michael Straczynski. It was directed by Mans Marlind and Björn Stein (Shelter). Michael Ealy, Stephen Rea, Charles Dance, and Theo James also star. It opens on Jan. 20.
If you thought Beckinsale looked pretty badass as a gun-toting vampire, check out this photo tweeted by Jaimie Alexander. Taken on the set of her new movie, The Last Stand, the photo shows Alexander, who played the butt-kicking Asgardian goddess Sif in this year's Thor, as a butt-kicking sheriff's deputy named Sarah Torrance.
Currently in production under the direction of Ji-woon Kim (The Good, the Bad, the Weird), The Last Stand stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Sheriff Owens, a former LAPD officer who retreated to the sleepy border town of Sommerton Junction after his partner was crippled during a botched operation. With the help of Deputy Torrance and the rest of his inexperienced deputies, Sheriff Owens hopes to prevent a notorious drug kingpin and his army of gang members from making their escape through his quiet little town.
The cast of The Last Stand includes Luis Guzman, Johnny Knoxville, Rodrigo Santoro, Harry Dean Stanton, Eduardo Noriega, Zach Gilford, Peter Stormare and Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker also star. It is slated to open Jan 18, 2013.
