Riddick 3 Going Back Into Production

It seemed like all of the battles that franchise actor Vin Diesel and writer-director David Twohy had with Universal over the budget and rating of Riddick 3 (working title) were for naught when the production was forced to shut down at the end of October because the production company, One Race Films — founded by Diesel — had "serious cash flow issues." Apparently, One Race Film has received an influx of cash because the owner of the Montreal studio where the movie was being filmed told TMZ that he is going to unlock the doors and allow the production to continue. Filming is expected to resume on December 28th.
With Riddick 3, Diesel and Twohy are looking to return the franchise to its Pitch Black roots by going for an R-rating and toning down the scale of the production. By doing this they hope to avoid the mistakes they made with the softer, more grandiose second movie, The Chronicles of Riddick, which failed to click with audiences or critics, barely breaking even at the box office and getting thrashed in reviews. According to Diesel, Riddick 3 is a direct sequel to Pitch Black, though there will be references to some characters and situations from Chronicles. Here's the synopsis:
Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.
According to one source, nearly all of the characters in Riddick 3 are new, with the only notable exception being Riddick's right-hand man, Vaako, which could mean the return of Karl Urban. However, there's been no word on Urban's involvement nor on the actors playing the rest of the major supporting characters that were being tested as long ago as August.
