Tree of Life and Beginners Tie for Best Feature at Gotham Independent Film Awards

The 2011 Gotham Independent Film Awards was held Monday night in New York City and panel members were "stuck" picking the Best Feature. Natalie Portman, who is on the jury, said they "chose to honor both" films, resulting in a tie between The Tree of Life and Beginners.
Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, follows a 1950's Texas family and their eldest son as he loses his innocence and later struggles with reconciling with his father. In the other Best Feature movie, Beginners, Ewan McGregor plays a young man who just discovered that his father has cancer and a male lover.
More winners included Felicity Jones for Breakthrough Actor in Like Crazy, the cast of Beginners for Ensemble Cast, Scenes of a Crime for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You, and Girlfriend for The Audience Award.
