The Dark Knight Rises Trailer Breaks iTunes Download Record

If trailer downloads are any indication of box office success, then the winner of next year's superhero movie battle royale will be acclaimed director Christopher Nolan's (Inception) third and final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises (TDKR). Warner Bros. announced yesterday that the trailer for TDKR was downloaded through the iTunes Movie Trailers site and iTunes apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch more than 12.5 million times in 24 hours, absolutely shattering the previous record of 10 million downloads in 24 hours set by the trailer for The Avengers back in October.
The Dark Knight Rises takes place eight years after the events in The Dark Knight, at a time when Gotham City is finally experiencing a period of relative peace and tranquility thanks to the efforts of Commissioner James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Batman (Christian Bale). However, the arrival of the driven criminal Bane (Tom Hardy) in Gotham City not only ends the peace, but it may also spell the end of Batman.
Joining Oldman and Bale in reprising their roles from The Dark Knight are Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Sir Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, and Nestor Carbonell as the mayor of Gotham City. New additions in major roles include Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Josh Pence as a younger (or mystically rejuvenated) Ra's al Ghul, and Juno Temple as Holly Robinson. Alon Aboutboul, Christopher Judge, Daniel Sunjata, Rob Brown, Adam Rodriguez, Christopher Judge, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman, Tom Conti, and Joey King also star.
