Fast Five is Most Pirated Movie of 2011
12.27.11 by BrentJS
The fifth installment of the action movie franchise that began with The Fast And The Furious in 2001, Fast Five may have been the highest-grossing movie in the series to date, but it only came in at #6 at the box office for 2011. However, director Justin Lin's third go at the property built on fast cars, Vin Diesel's biceps and Paul Walker's smile does have the dubious distinction of being the movie most watched by people who didn't feel like paying to see it. According to TorrentFreak (via MSN), Fast Five was the "most pirated film of 2011," with the movie being swapped online nearly 9.3 million times via BitTorrent.
Despite the staggering number of times Fast Five was illegally shared, there is a silver lining: it was swapped nearly 7 million times less than the 2010 piracy leader, Avatar, which was illegally downloaded over 16 million times. Here's the 10 ten most pirated movies of 2011:
1. Fast Five
2. The Hangover Part II
4. Source Code
5. I Am Number Four
6. Sucker Punch
7. 127 Hours
9. The King's Speech
10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Fast Five was written by Chris Morgan, who also wrote the two previous sequels directed by Justin Lin, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and Fast and Furious (2009). The cast includes Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
