The first teaser poster for The Paperboy, Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels' follow-up to Precious (2009), has been released online. The movie is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Pete Dexter — who also wrote the screenplay adaptation — and stars Matthew McConaughey. The story follows Ward Jansen, an investigative reporter for a Miami newspaper who attempts to uncover the truth about the murder of a sheriff that has landed a possibly innocent man (John Cusack) on death row. The investigation becomes complicated when Ward's younger brother, James (Zac Efron), falls in love with the femme fatale (Nicole Kidman) who has been corresponding with the convicted murderer in prison.
The Paperboy does not yet have a release date, but it is expected to debut in 2012.
If you're looking for something a little less steamy and a little more caliente, check out the new teaser poster and "vintage" theatrical poster for Casa de Mi Padre ("House of My Father"). Billed as the "Funniest Movie You'll Ever Read," the Spanish-language homage to telenovelas ("Spanish soap operas") was directed by Emmy-winning TV writer Matt Piedmont (Saturday Night Live). It stars Will Ferrell as Armando Alvarez, the son of a Mexican ranchero who schemes with his younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), a successful international businessman, for ways to save the failing ranch. However, things get loco when Armando falls for Raul's new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez), and Raul's less-than-legit business dealings put them at odds with Mexico's most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal), and his army of bandidos.
Casa de Mi Padre was written by SNL and Funny or Die Presents... scribe Andrew Steele. The cast includes Efren Ramirez, Adrian Martinez, Pedro Armendáriz Jr. and Nick Offerman.
Casa de Mi Padre opens March 16th.
