Evil Dead Remake Gets First Cast Member

Sony Pictures already scheduled a March production start for its upcoming Evil Dead remake last month, and it hasn't taken long for casting decisions to follow.
Bloody-Disgusting reports that Lily Collins (Priest, Abduction) is in final negotiations to play the role of "Mia" in the remake of director Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic (Raimi, along with The Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert, is overseeing the project) and is the remake's first reported cast member.
In the remake, not unlike the original, five friends will again head to a remote cabin (the remake will be shot in New Zealand instead of the backwoods of Tennessee) and unwittingly unleash demonic spirits after discovering the Book of the Dead. Collins' character of Mia is the one with the reported drug addiction subplot, and is hoping to detox at the cabin. Mia's new-found sobriety is difficult for her at first, so once the spirits arrive, Mia's weird behavior makes it hard for her to convince her brother David and their friends of the trouble coming their way. If you want to know more about the plot (and aren't worried about spoilers), head here, or wait until the remake opens on April 12, 2013.
Newcomer Federico "Fede" Alvarez will direct Evil Dead from a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues. Academy Award–winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) rewrote the script, and has called the remake "scary and good and true to the original" and won't become a "hip, trendy horror movie full of pop culture references", as many Evil Dead fans fear it might.
