Paramount Schedules Paranormal Activity 4

When the first Paranormal Activity opened in 2009 and crushed Saw VI at the box office, it didn't look like October's annual horror movie franchise was in complete jeopardy. When Paranormal Activity 2 did better business than Saw 3D in 2010, the newly-formed franchise of Paranormal Activity officially buried the Saw movies, allowing Paranormal Activity 3 to open in a Saw-less October last year and reap the box office benefits to the end sum of $203 million worldwide. Unsurprisingly, Paramount has scheduled the release date for the fourth installment, and it won't be hard to figure out what month it will open.
In November, instead of announcing the release date for Paranormal Activity 4, as it had done for Paranormal 3, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman revealed that Paramount was "developing ideas" for a fourth movie. Earlier this week, it was reported that Paranormal 4 would be released later this year. Considering the other Paranormal Activity movies all opened around the same date, Paramount wasted no time in scheduling the fourth, with Box Office Mojo revealing that Paranormal Activity 4 would open on October 19th, a whole two days earlier than its predecessor.
No writer or director has been announced for Paranormal 4, though Oren Peli, director of the first movie and the executive producer on the sequels, recently hinted that some story decision may have already been decided. "We are never going to make a sequel ... just for the sake of making a sequel," Peli told THR in December. "It's safe to say there are discussions."
