With the live-action, Americanized adaptation of
Akira currently on hold while it awaits a new script, Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), the only actor that was confirmed for the movie, has found time for another project. Luckily for Hedlund, that project happens to be Inside Llewyn Davis, the latest movie from Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Fargo).
Variety reports that Hedlund is in negotiations for an unspecified role in the movie, which is loosely based on the life of Dave van Ronk, an American folk singer who was a part of the 1960s folk scene in Greenwich Village and was friends with Bob Dylan and other famed musicians. After his role in Country Strong, Hedlund has proved he can handle a musical role.
Hedlund joins a cast that includes Coen brothers regular John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink), Oscar Isaac (Sucker Punch), Carey Mulligan (Drive) and Justin Timberlake (The Social Network). Production is set to start soon in New York.
Vin Diesel is getting some company for Riddick 3 (working title).
Reportedly a more direct sequel to 2000's Pitch Black, the first movie to have Diesel in the Riddick role, Riddick 3's synopsis revealed that, for the third installment, the character would be hunted by "bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy". Money issues plagued the production late last year, but with shooting back on track, writer-director David Twohy has started to cast those bounty hunters.
Deadline reports that Katee Sackhoff, who played Starbuck on the recent TV remake of Battlestar Galactica is in final negotiations to play Dahl, a Nordic mercenary tracking Riddick.
Variety reports that Jordi Mollà (Colombiana, Knight and Day), who was recently up for the villain role in Star Trek 2, is also in negotiations for the role of Santana, a mercenary who leads an eight-man crew that are trying to find and kill Riddick. According to character details revealed last August, Santana was described as "Boss Johns' Machete-wielding enforcer". Boss Johns is the father of William J. Johns (Cole Hauser), who died in Pitch Black.
Riddick 3 reportedly resumed shooting late last month. Currently, there is no release date set, yet.
Director Zack Snyder
has been shooting his Superman
reboot, Man of Steel
, for a while now, but is getting a new addition to his cast.
Variety reports that former West Wing actor Richard Schiff has been cast as a character called Dr. Hamilton, likely based on the DC Comics character Dr. Emil Hamilton, a genius-level inventor and former employee of S.T.A.R. Labs and the U.S. government who was driven insane after Lex Luthor bought, and then took credit for, his inventions. Once he is released from a mental health facility, Hamilton becomes Superman's scientific adviser. Hamilton also later goes insane again and becomes the villain Ruin, but with Michael Shannon playing General Zod in the movie, it seems unlikely that the movie will delve that far into Hamilton's comic book history, but with so much secrecy surrounding the movie, there's no way to be sure.
Man of Steel was written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) from a story he conceived with producer Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) that reportedly follows a pre-Superman Clark Kent discovering his powers and trying to find his place in the world. The cast includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane; Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Superman's adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent; Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet; and Russell Crowe and Ayelet Zurer as Superman's Kryptonian parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, respectively. Man of Steel is scheduled to open on June 14, 2013.
