The first photo from Lovelace, the upcoming biopic of the late 1970's porn star Linda Lovelace (Amanda Seyfried), was revealed last week and, in the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly—via scanner at The Playlist—another new photo has arrived online. While the first photo shows the early days of her relationship with her abusive husband Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard), in the print edition of EW, Seyfried revealed that the latest photo takes place later in the couple's marriage, though still before Traynor would violently force Lovelace into a pornographic career.
Chuck has just gotten out of jail and told me that we are broke. We have nothing. She's worried about what measures he'll take, what he's capable of in this situation.
For Seyfried, the role of Lovelace is certainly a change of pace after appearing in movie's like the 2010 romantic drama Dear John and the 2008 musical Mamma Mia!. "The film will be both brazen and risqué," said Seyfried. "It is very bold. In order to fully share her story, I've never been more ready and willing to explore these dark and emotional circumstances."
Discussing the nudity that is likely involved in playing a former porn star, Patrick Muldoon, a producer at Lovelace production company Eclectic Pictures, told E! Online that Seyfried's performance is "not about nudity" even though he admits that taking off clothes is part of the movie.
It's profound, the performance that she's giving...She's doing such an amazing job. We're about two weeks into filming, and the movie's going to be incredible. Thematically, it's talking about how abusive the porn industry was to Linda Lovelace. Yes, there's a lot of nudity, but it's a message movie about respecting women.
Lovelace is being directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (Howl) from a script by screenwriter Andy Bellin (Trust). THR reported last week that Debi Mazar (Entourage) and Cory Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles) are the latest to be added to the cast of Lovelace. Mazar will play Dolly Sharp, Lovelace's co-star in the 1972 adult movie Deep Throat, while Hardrict will play radio DJ Frankie Crocker, who is credited with starting FM radio.
The Lovelace cast also includes Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct, Casino) and Robert Patrick (T2) as Lovelace's parents; Demi Moore as feminist author Gloria Steinem; Adam Brody as Lovelace's Deep Throat co-star Harry Reems, Hank Azaria (The Smurfs) as Deep Throat director Jerry Damiano; Juno Temple (The Three Musketeers) as Lovelace's best friend; Eric Roberts as lie detector expert Nat Laurendi; and Chris Noth and Bobby Cannavale as Deep Throat financiers Anthony Romano and Butchie Peraino, respectively.
