Shiloh Fernandez Joins Evil Dead Remake

Late last month, the Evil Dead reboot lost its first and only cast member in Lily Collins (Abduction, the upcoming Mirror, Mirror), who reportedly dropped out due to a "scheduling issue." Perhaps the latest casting will stick, as Variety reports that Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) has been cast as the male lead in the movie, which was reportedly a highly sought after role by young actors.
A remake of director Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic, newcomer director Fede Alvarez has co-written a reinvention that will still see a group of friends head to a remote cabin and discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demonic spirits. Diablo Cody (Juno) provided rewrites on the script and has revealed that the movie will be "true to the original" and reassured fans that she didn't rewrite the movie into a "hip, trendy horror movie full of pop culture references."
Fernandez's role is unspecified, but Moviehole, which has provided plenty of spoiler-ish plot details from the remake, speculates that the actor has been cast as David, the brother of Mia, who Collins was supposed to play.
Evil Dead is scheduled for a March production start in New Zealand. Via his Twitter, Alvarez has revealed a set pic of what the environment will look like in the remake.
Evil Dead is scheduled for release on April 12, 2013. The Evil Dead producer Robert Tapert, along with Raimi and Campbell, are overseeing the remake.
