Well, that was fast. Just yesterday, Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) was cast as the male lead in the upcoming Evil Dead remake, and now the female lead has been filled as well.
Deadline reports Jane Levy (Suburgatory) has landed the role of Mia, the part Lily Collins (Abduction, the upcoming Mirror Mirror) was cast in last month until she a dropped out recently. Like director Sam Raimi's 1981 original, Evil Dead will be about five friends who head to a remote cabin for the weekend and end up finding the Book of the Dead and inadvertently unleash demons who end up possessing the friends one-by-one. Mia is going to the cabin to detox from a recent overdose, and ends up being the counterpoint to Ash, the protagonist played by Bruce Campbell in the trilogy of Evil Dead movies.
Newcomer director Fede Alvarez will take over for Raimi on Evil Dead, which he also co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues and was subsequently rewritten by Diablo Cody (Juno). Raimi, Campbell and The Evil Dead producer Robert Tapert are overseeing the project, which will start production in New Zealand this March. Sony Pictures, who will distribute Evil Dead, have scheduled the remake to open on April 12, 2013.
