Despite appearances in movies like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Live Free or Die Hard, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has never strayed too far from her horror roots, which started with 2006's Final Destination 3 and Black Christmas and continued to last year's The Thing. For Winstead's latest journey into the genre, she will team with The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm for The Darkness.
Written by Megan Holley (Sunshine Cleaning) and loosely based on Henry James' classic novel Turn of the Screw, The Darkness will follow Winstead as a young American student who looks after young children in a British manor and is convinced they are the victims of a haunting.
Screen Daily reports that The Darkness will start shooting in Europe this summer and that British distributor HanWay Films has already agreed to release the movie internationally. "We were blown away by The Last Exorcism," said HanWay managing director Thorsten Schumacher. "Given the recent box office success of the ghost movie genre in attracting the sought after younger audience, the timing is perfect to bring this haunting thriller to the marketplace."
John Goodman is the latest actor to join the baseball scout drama Trouble with the Curve, a week after Justin Timberlake joined the cast.
Trouble With the Curve marks Clint Eastwood's return to acting as he plays an aging baseball scout who embarks on a working road trip to Atlanta with his daughter (Amy Adams). According to Variety, Goodman will play Pete Klein, an "old-school scout and longtime friend" of Eastwood's character who hasn't lost faith in him. Timberlake is playing a pitcher-turned-scout who is the love interest for Adams. Goodman and Timberlake will also appear in the upcoming folk music movie Inside Llewyn Davis from writer-directors Joel and Ethan Coen.
Written by newcomer Randy Brown and directed by Robert Lorenz, Eastwood's longtime producing partner, Trouble With the Curve is set to start production in Atlanta this March. Matthew Lillard (The Descendants) will co-star as a fellow scout.

. Alexander's latest role
