Casting News: Will Ferrell is a Flamingo Thief; More Evil Dead Casting; Eastwood and Eastwood Get in Trouble

Will Ferrell's next two roles will see him play rancher Armando Alvarez in the telenovela parody Casa de Mi Padre (opening March 16) and then North Carolina politician Cam Brady in the political comedy Dog Fight (opening Aug. 10th), but his next role will see him play a man who steals flamingos.
Variety reports that Ferrell is attached to star in Flamingo Thief, based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Susan Trott. Ferrell will play lawyer Tim Forrester, who, after his wife leaves him, becomes obsessed with stealing flamingo figurines.
No director is currently attached though the search has just begun. Ben Stiller will produce through his Red Hour production company, and Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree) will adapt the screenplay.
Another lamb has arrived for the slaughter of director Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake.
Like director Sam Raimi's 1981 original, Evil Dead will follow five friends who travel to a remote cabin for the weekend and end up unleashing evil spirits after discovering the mystical Book of the Dead. After Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) and Jane Levy (Suburgatory) landed the male and female lead roles of siblings David and Mia, respectively, Variety reports Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) has been cast as Eric, an "intense academic whose intellectual curiosity gets him and his friends into trouble" (i.e. the guy who reads the Book of the Dead and gets them all killed).
Alvarez co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues and was subsequently rewritten by Diablo Cody (Juno). Raimi, Bruce Campbell and The Evil Dead producer Robert Tapert are overseeing the project, which will start production in New Zealand this March. Evil Dead is scheduled to open on April 12, 2013.

Written by newcomer Randy Brown and directed by Robert Lorenz, Eastwood's longtime producing partner, Trouble With the Curve follows the elder Eastwood as an aging baseball scout with vision problems who goes on a working road trip to Atlanta with his daughter (Amy Adams) to check out a young prospect, the role the younger Eastwood will play. According to Variety, Scott had to audition for the role.
Eastwood (and Eastwood) join a cast that includes John Goodman as a scout and longtime friend of the elder Eastwood and Justin Timberlake as a pitcher-turned-scout who is the love interest for Adams. Production on Trouble With the Curve is set to start in Atlanta this March.
