Vin Diesel Reflects in New Photo from the Set of Riddick

Franchise star Vin Diesel began teasing the sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick long before the cameras began rolling by posting several pieces of pre-production art on his personal Facebook page as a sort of digital "thank you" to his 30 million-and-climbing followers. Diesel even beat Universal Pictures to the punch by posting online the first still image from Riddick one day before the official announcement of the start of production.
Despite being busy both starring in and producing Riddick, Diesel still manages to find the time to connect with his fans. His most recent Facebook update includes a candid new photo of himself in costume on the set in Montreal and an anecdote that explains why he felt the need to return to the world — and mindset — of the Furyan when he could have just as easily let the franchise die off following the highly criticized second movie.
Here's an excerpt from Diesel's Facebook post, followed by the candid set photo:
Despite the fact, that this by far is the most physical of roles that I have played… I decided to show a picture you might never see… a candid, of me in between a lighting set up, just reflecting…
It has been sometime now since I have ventured to that place, where the Furyan dwells… It is strange how learning about myself always coincides with playing the character, which has never been more true than in this experience… but, I will explain that some other day when I am beyond this journey.
It was early yesterday morning when our production week ended, the Director [David Twohy] and handful from the crew were recapping/celebrating the weeks accomplishments, when someone asked why I had to make this film. The Director who has known me for almost 15 years said quickly… 'with Vin, it is all about the promise, if he says he will make it, it doesn't matter how long it takes, he will.'
Riddick also stars Karl Urban (Star Trek, upcoming Dredd) as Vaako, Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) as the Nordic mercenary Dahl, Jordi Mollà (Colombiana, Knight and Day) as Santana, the "arrogant captain of the mercenary ship," Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a "man looking for answers," and Bokeem Woodbine (upcoming Total Recall remake) as a bounty hunter named Moss. Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Bereavement), Dave Batista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption) and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson also star in as-yet-unspecified roles. Riddick does not yet have a release date.
