Last week, Disney/Pixar released an preview clip for their upcoming Brave which gave audiences an extended look at the movie's protagonist, the non-traditional princess Merida (voiced by Boardwalk Empire's Kelly Macdonald), and her archery skills. During Sunday's Oscar broadcast, the studio released the movie's first TV spot.
The spot offers a broader look, going through the movie's various characters, including King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) as well as Merida, without revealing much dialogue. In fact, the only thing said at all is Merida asking in voice-over: "if you had the chance to change your fate, would you?"
Here's the official synopsis from Brave.
Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
Brave was written Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt) and Irene Mecchi (Fantasia 2000) and was directed by Mark Andrews. The voice cast includes Kevin McKidd as Lord MacGuffin, Craig Ferguson as Lord Macintosh, Robbie Coltrane as Lord Dingwall and Julie Walters as the witch.
