New Trailer for The Raven Channels the Dark and Creepy

We imagine the latest trailer for The Raven is more in line with what American horror writer Edgar Allan Poe would have in mind if he thought of a movie in which he, himself, was a character. Indeed, the first trailer for The Raven felt more like a Sherlock Holmes rip-off than classic American gothic. Now, it seems, producers of the movie may have agreed and have decided on a different tack—pushing the dark and creepy side of the movie instead.
Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) and starring John Cusack as the famous writer of the eponymous poem, The Raven's newest trailer shows Poe as he is enlisted to work against a killer who uses the writer's own stories as inspiration to enact his crimes. The frames are darker and the dialogue more grim than glib. We find it much easier to get behind the movie this way.
The Raven also stars Alice Eve as Emily, Brendan Gleeson as Col. Hamilton, Luke Evans as Inspector Emmett Fields, and Oliver Jackson Cohen as Cantrell. The movie was co-written by newcomers Ben Livingston (Unrest) and Hannah Shakespeare (Loverboy).
