New The Avengers Trailer Introduces a New Threat

Finally, Marvel has released a new trailer for The Avengers, the first new footage from the highly anticipated comic book movie since the arrival of its Super Bowl Ad earlier this month. Marvel has been making a bit of a promotional push for the trailer this week, revealing a new poster and allowing Entertainment Tonight to release a sneak peek of the trailer to go along with some behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast.
In the latest trailer, fans get to see S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) assemble Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) for the "Avengers Initiative" while Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) finds Dr, Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). While the team is obviously put together to battle Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the trailer reveals another threat that Loki is using to destroy "Earth's Mightiest Heroes."
While nothing is confirmed, Empire speculates that the giant creature is Iron Man villain Fin Fang Foom. It's a fair hypothesis, though we still have no idea what "army" Loki employs to battle the Avengers, and the giant creature could be an extension of whatever army eventually shows up. Or it could be a giant Hydrobot from Terminator Salvation... Or perhaps we're reaching a bit there.
The Avengers was written and directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) and co-stars Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson, and Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig.
