Evil Dead Remake Adds Two More Cast Members

With production set to start next month in New Zealand, director Fede Alvarez is filling out his cast for the upcoming remake of Evil Dead.
Like director Sam Raimi's 1981 original, the remake will follow five friends who spend a weekend in a remote cabin and find the mystical Book of the Dead. Jane Levy (Suburgatory) is set to play the lead Mia, who heads to the cabin to detox from some substance abuse issues and ends up having to tackle evil spirits, and Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) will play Mia's brother David. THR reports that Jessica Lucas (CW's Melrose Place, Cloverfield), pictured, is in talks to play Levy's best friend who is also a nurse. Newcomer Elizabeth Blackmore (Burning Man) will play Fernandez's fiancée and is new to the group. Lucas and Blackmore join a cast that also includes Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric, the group's "academic" who find the Book of the Dead and likely reads it and releases the evil spirits.
Evil Dead was written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, with rewrites from Diablo Cody (Juno). Raimi, along with The Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert will produce via Raimi's Ghost House Pictures production company. Cody has said that the remake will be "true to the original" and Campbell recently said that the remake will be "a damn scary horror movie." Sony Pictures is set to distribute the movie, which will open on April 12, 2013.
