Pottermore Will (Finally) Be Open to Everyone Next Month
03.09.12 by Mandy
It was supposed to open in October 2011, and then it was moved back to January 2012, but now, officially, Pottermore will open in April. The announcement was made on the official Pottermore blog yesterday, and undoubtedly millions of fans are excited to see the online interactive Harry Potter reading experience for themselves.
Unfortunately, one little detail was left out of the announcement: an actual date. Hopefully, this time they're not just leading us on, and it will open in about a month. The announcement did apologize for the delay and explained why it took so much longer than expected.
We gathered some incredibly useful feedback from our Beta users, and it became clear that our original platform wouldn’t be suitable when millions more users came on to the site. So we made a big decision: to move Pottermore to an entirely different platform set up. This ‘invisible’ change has involved a lot of work behind the scenes but it will enable our users to get the best from Pottermore as it grows and develops.
There have definitely been some challenges and the whole Pottermore team has been working really hard to incorporate all the Beta activity and feedback. This means that over the coming weeks and months we’ll be adding exclusive content and many more exciting features (such as sounds) to Pottermore for you to explore, share and discover.
The reviews for the site from the Beta users are decidedly mixed, but they all seem to agree on one thing: the new content from J.K. Rowling
is excellent. Even with the mixed reviews it seems likely that Pottermore will have many of us spending hours online revisiting Hogwarts. It also seems likely that the site — along with the Harry Potter series finally available as an eBook &mash; will put Rowling back on Forbes' list of billionaires.
