Robert Rodriguez Says Sin City 2 Will Shoot This Summer, After Machete Kills

Robert Rodriguez has been talking about Sin City 2 for so long now that fans have a tough time believing it when he says things like "the time is finally coming" for Sin City 2, as he did last August. (Sequel talk has been ongoing since Sin City was released in 2005.)
Still, at the South By Southwest Festival, THR reports Rodriguez said Sin City 2 will start shooting over the summer, around the time Rodriguez is done working on Machete Kills, which starts shooting in April. Furthermore, Rodriguez told What's Trending (via SlashFilm) that there might even be some "overlap" between the two sequels.
And then we're doing Sin City 2 — it might overlap that. It's going to be right at the end of that, so we'll probably be editing Machete [Kills] while we shoot Sin City . It'll be summer, it'll be hot, and it'll be nice and cool inside on the green screen.
Sin City 2 will again be based on Frank Miller's Sin City graphic novels, in particular "A Dame to Kill For" and two of his brand-new stories. Academy Award–winning screenwriter William Monahan, who wrote 2006's The Departed, did some rewrites of the script, though Miller revealed last October that he and Rodriguez were "finishing up the script" for Sin City 2, so it's possible that the script got another rewrite after Monahan's version.
Up next for Rodriguez is Machete Kills, which the filmmaker described as a "James Bond, Mission: Impossible"-esque adventure story.
Machete Kills is just really good... I can't give away anything right now but it turns very James Bond, Mission: Impossible. He works for the government, the president gives him a job and he has to go do it. He gets citizenship, and they say "for your new country, you have to do this."
The job Machete's given is to battle a Mexican cartel leader and a billionaire arms dealer who have a plan to start a global war with a weapon in space. That helps set up the third movie, which Rodriguez said could go by the altered title of Machete Kills Again... In Space. No word yet on when Machete Kills will reach theaters.
