Franchise star and producer Vin Diesel might as well add "publicist" to his list of titles as he continues to be the source of new information about the currently-in-production sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick, titled simply Riddick. Even before the movie went into production, Diesel began using his personal Facebook page to pimp the movie to his 31 million-and-counting fans by posting concept, storyboard and key frame art. After production began in Canada, Diesel continued to deliver, posting several photos of himself in costume as Riddick and even revealing the first still images from the movie instead of waiting for Universal to do it for him.
In the past week, Diesel's Riddick posts have been more revealing than ever, giving us our first look at the "Mercs!" that are hunting Riddick — including Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) as Dahl on her last day on set — and also our first good look at a toothy-grinned monster that could be one of the "mud demons" that we've been hearing about for over a year. Of course, the movie is about Riddick so Diesel posted serveral more shots of himself in costume on the set, as well.
Riddick was written and is being directed by David Twohy, who directed Pitch Black, wrote and directed The Chronicles of Riddick, and also helped in the writing of the 2004 made-for-DVD animated movie The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury. Karl Urban (Star Trek, upcoming Dredd) returns as Vaako, joined by Jordi Mollà (Colombiana, Knight and Day) as Santana, Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, and Bokeem Woodbine (upcoming Total Recall remake) as Moss. Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Bereavement), Dave Batista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson also star in as-yet-unspecified roles. Riddick does not yet have a release date.
