Sony Pictures Animation has released online the first trailer for acclaimed animator and director Genndy Tartakovsky's (Samurai Jack, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) new 3-D animated feature, Hotel Transylvania. The trailer is brief, promising far more laughs than frights, but the animation is superb. Adam Sandler does an excellent job of disguising his normal voice to play Dracula, the keeper of the inn for monsters who want to go on vacation without having to worry about pesky humans. Until one shows up at the front door, that is.
Curiously, the plot synopsis included with the trailer on the Columbia Pictures Phillipines YouTube channel differs from the previously released one when it comes to the human interloper. The original synopsis described the human as an "ordinary guy" named "Johnny" (voiced by Andy Samberg) who just happens upon the inn and falls in love with Dracula's daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez), whereas the synopsis included with the trailer described him as "Simon Van Helsing, the youngest in a long line of monster hunters," making his arrival at the inn seem anything but accidental.
The cast also includes the voice talents of Kevin James as Frankenstein, Cee Lo Green as Murray the Mummy, David Spade as Griffin the Invisible Man, David Koechner as Quasimodo, and Steve Buscemi and Molly Shannon as a werewolf couple named Wayne and Wanda. Hotel Transylvania is scheduled for release on September 21st.
