Holiday Heroes Unite in First Trailer for Rise of the Guardians Animated Feature

We first heard about DreamWorks Animation's holiday heroes animated feature Rise of the Guardians — not to be confused with the Zack Snyder-directed Warner Bros. animated feature Legend of the Guardians about a bunch of heroic owls — back in 2009, when it was announced that it would be Leonardo DiCaprio's first time lending his voice to an animated character. At the time, DreamWorks had little more than a synopsis and a single piece of concept art to share with us.
Fast-forward two years and DiCaprio is no longer involved with the movie — Chris Pine (Star Trek) stepped in to provide the voice of Jack Frost in his stead — but enough of the highly-detailed 3D animation is completed that DreamWorks has finally released a trailer for the movie. Less whimsical holiday-inspired fable and more action-oriented holiday deconstruction, Rise of the Guardians offers us a decidely different look at several of our beloved holiday icons as they band together to protect "the hopes, beliefs and imagination of the children all over the world."
When an evil spirit called Pitch becomes bent upon taking over the world by inspiring fear in the hearts of kids everywhere, a group of our greatest heroes — Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost — band together for the first time, determined to stand in Pitch's way. More than a collection of storybook subjects, "The Guardians" are also a band of superheroes, who possess their own special powers. Now joined in opposition of a common foe, the Guardians heed the call and combine their powers to defeat Pitch and protect the world from his campaign of fear.
