New Thor-Centric TV Spot for The Avengers
Posted 04.12.12 by Ryan
There are a lot of Marvel characters in The Avengers. To help fans keep track of them all and their various backstories (comic and movie), we created an Avengers Primer. Clearly we're not alone in our concern that it might be difficult to keep track of the massive line-up of characters taken from previous Marvel movies (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger).
Marvel has started making hero-centric spots to go along with its seemingly endless stream of clips and TV spots. A minute-long spot focusing on Captain America (Chris Evans) debuted last week. This week the spotlight has turned to Thor (Chris Hemsworth).
Last time audiences saw Thor was in his own movie, which ended with the Norse thunder god stranded in his native Asgard. While the Thor-centric spot doesn't explain his reappearance on Earth, it does reveal that the character's haughtiness and lack of familiarity of humanity still remain after discovering humility in Thor. Thor's life also continues to be complicated by his brother Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) actions.
With just over three weeks before the Avengers debuts, there may not be enough time to release character spots for every team member, particularly if Marvel keeps to this weekly schedule. Still, we anticipate that at least Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) will receive his own. In the meantime, there's another new TV spot that has arrived online as well, which you can check out below.
The Avenger was written and directed by Joss Whedon (Serenity) and co-stars Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk; Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury; Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye; Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow; and Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson.
