Stephenie Meyer to Produce Down a Dark Hall

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is going to produce a movie based on a young-adult novel, but it's not one of her own. Meyer and her production company, Fickle Fish Films, have optioned the rights to Lois Duncan's Down a Dark Hall. The 1974 novel is a Gothic, supernatural tale about a teenage girl who gets accepted to a boarding school and finds that it only has four students enrolled. Though there doesn't seem to be any room for vampires and werewolves in the story, there certainly seems to be plenty of opportunity to include some thrills and suspense. There is no release date yet for the movie, but it is expected to arrive in 2014.
This is not the first time Meyer is producing a movie that's not based on her own work. Fickle Fish Films is also behind Austenland, based on a novel about a Pride and Prejudice–obsessed woman who travels to a Jane Austen–themed resort. From what Meyer has written about the experience on her website, it's clear she had a great time on the production end of the movie-making business. If Down a Dark Hall proves equally rewarding, there will likely be quite a few more literature-related movies coming from Meyer and Fickle Fish.
