Scarlett Johansson Wants a "Bourne Like" Black Widow Spin-Off Movie

Since appearing in Iron Man 2 as Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, actress Scarlett Johansson has wanted a spin-off movie for the character. Back in 2009, Johansson called the Black Widow role "a total dream come true" and admitted to wanting a solo movie. (To which Marvel president of production Kevin Feige responded by saying that a Black Widow movie was possible "should we be lucky enough to have an audience that wants to see" it.)
While last year's Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger superseded the immediate need for a Black Widow movie, the character is getting a reprisal in the upcoming The Avengers. Johansson recently admitted to Screen Rant that the Black Widow would not return for Iron Man 3, which means the character might only be back in a potential The Avengers 2 or, as Johansson has requested to Marvel, a "Bourne type" of solo movie.
I think that you build this kind of character in the hope that the fans are like, "we want more." I personally think there’s an awesome Black Widow movie in there that is, like, a kind of Bourne type of film that would take the whole comic-book genre in a completely different direction. It would be awesome. I’ve spoken to Marvel about it and Kevin Feige, and there’s so much story there to draw from. I think it would be totally awesome. But do I want to spend another three months, like, shedding the manatee skin and squeezing back into that suit? Not necessarily, but, you know, it’s all worth it in the end.
A Black Widow movie could be possible. Marvel had two dates scheduled for 2014, one of which is now officially filled by Captain America 2, but the other is still fair game. Based on Feige's recent talks about upcoming projects, Ant-Man or Runaways seem the more likely candidates, but Marvel could surprise us yet.
For the time being, Johansson will have to be satisfied with appearing in The Avengers alongside Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The Avengers was written and directed by Joss Whedon.
