Will Michael Bay Plunder Treasure Island Prequel?

Michael Bay is at it again.
Not content on completely re-imagining the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michael Bay is sailing full speed ahead toward another story from your childhood — Treasure Island. The uber-producer is now developing a new series for Starz, Black Sails, a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate adventure. The story takes place 20 years before the events of the novel and follows Captain Flint and a young Long John Silver. Here's the full synopsis:
[Captain] Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day — a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.
Bay, known for blowing everything up on the big screen, will now be known for blowing everything up on the small screen. "I'm excited to branch out into television," said Bay, "especially doing a long-form series for STARZ, a network known for supporting cutting-edge programming."
In this obvious attempt to ride the Pirates of the Caribbean wave, we can only guess at the liberties Bay is going to take with the source material. If he's able to take the Teenage and Mutant out of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there's no telling what Bay will re-imagine with this project. Sure, swashbuckling pirates who sail on the open seas sounds pretty awesome, but you know what sounds awesomer? Swashbuckling pirates who sail on boats that transform into alien robots! With supermodels! In 3-D! We're subscribing to Starz right now.
The series is set to start shooting in Cape Town, South Africa, later this year and air in 2014.
