No Jessica Chastain in Iron Man 3; Ben Kingsley "Thrilled" to Join Sequel

With Iron Man 3 set to start shooting soon, the cast additions to the third installment had some exciting newcomers in Ben Kingsley as a mysterious villain and Guy Pearce as geneticist Aldrich Killian. Most recently, Jessica Chastain was offered (for the second time) a role as a "sexy scientist." Looks like Chastain has had to decline again, as indicated by a message on the actress' Facebook page (via Super Hero Hype).
Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn't going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can't fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I'm so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there'll be another Marvel film in my future. [Director and co-writer] Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I'm very excited to see the film when it comes out. xx
Black co-wrote the screenplay for Iron Man 3 with Drew Pearce. With Pearce's (Guy) casting, the sequel is likely based, at least loosely, on the Extremis storyline from the Iron Man comic books, which sees the hero's body merge with the technology of his armor. Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as Tony Stark, with Gwyneth Paltrow returning as Pepper Potts, and Don Cheadle reprising his Iron Man 2 role as Lt. James "Rhodey" Rhodes, aka War Machine. Scarlett Johansson has admitted that she won't return for Iron Man 3 as Black Widow, while Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau was recently rumored to be up for a role as "an old friend of Tony's" who works in "China's technology sector" and could aid Iron Man in defeating the Mandarin, who, unlike the comic books, would not be an individual villain, but a conglomerate.
Of course, Kingsley could still be preparing to play the Mandarin as well, as many outlets are speculating. Whatever his role may be, the actor told Super Hero Hype that he won't be walking on to the Iron Man 3 set anytime soon considering his busy schedule. However, unlike Chastain, Kingsley's busy schedule won't keep him away, and the Academy Award–winning actor admitted he was "thrilled" to join the sequel.
I'm filming Ender's Game in New Orleans right now and then I go onto a film called The Physician, which is a beautiful film about a physician and then I go into Iron Man. Quite soon I'll be with everybody and we'll be discussing the look and the feel and the direction of the character. It's very early days yet, but I'm so thrilled to be on board.
