Idris Elba Wants to Explore Heimdall's Background in Thor 2

For fans of The Wire, Idris Elba will always be known as the drug king Stringer Bell. But in the Marvel movie universe, the actor is recognized for his portrayal of Heimdall, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge on Thor's Asgard.
Even though he was absent from The Avengers, Elba is returning to the role in Thor 2. In an interview this week with Collider, Elba said he hopes the sequel explores the character's background.
I'd just like to get to know him a bit more. Who is Heimdall? He guards the gate. Okay. Is there anything else? I don't know what is in the script because I haven't read it yet. But, the audience has responded to Asgard and wants to know more about who lives there and what it's about. I'm sure, if they do that, Heimdall will be featured more.
Thor 2 is just one of many projects on the actor's plate. Elba will next be seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus, where he plays ship captain Janek. He also has no less than five other movies scheduled to hit theaters in the next two years, including a role in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim and playing Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom.
My schedule is so packed this year, to the point where I really don't have an address anymore. I'm going to be living on film sets for the next year. I literally moved out of a place and was not going to get a new one. My schedule is really packed, but I'm going to do Thor after I play [Nelson] Mandela.
What do you think — do you hope to see more of Heimdall in the Thor 2?
