Tom Hardy Gets Intense in Two Preview Clips From Lawless

This summer will see Tom Hardy play two tough, no-nonsense characters: as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, and as Forrest Bondurant in director John Hillcoat's gritty period piece, Lawless, which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. While Hardy's role as the Gotham-terrorizing Bane has received most of the attention in the lead up to the summer months, it's the British actor's role in Lawless that — albeit quietly — looks to be just as intense (as an added bonus, audiences will also be able to see Hardy's facial expressions).
Based on Matt Bondurant's novel The Wettest County in the World, Lawless focuses on three brothers — Forrest (Hardy), Jack (Shia LaBeouf) and Howard (Jason Clarke) — whose bootlegging business is threatened by various forces in Prohibition-era Virginia. Two new preview clips highlight the troubles that face the Bondurants, with the first finding Hardy quite unhappy with the intimidation techniques of Chicago lawman Charles Rakes (Guy Pearce).
In the second clip Hardy offers some survival advice to LaBeouf, who has clearly had his face confused with a punching bag.
Written by Nick Cave (The Proposition), Lawless co-stars Gary Oldman as the gangster Floyd Banner; Mia Wasikowska as Bertha Minnix, a preacher's daughter who Jack desperately tries to impress; and Jessica Chastain as Maggie, a woman with a mysterious past who puts a spell on Forrest.
