The Hobbit Production Video #7 Arrives Online
06.06.12 by Ryan
There's still no new trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey since the first trailer arrived at the end of 2012. Thankfully, though, director Peter Jackson continues to provide video production blogs on his Facebook page, keeping fans sated until the next reveal of footage arrives (at next month's Comic-Con, we suspect).
The fifth and sixth production videos for The Hobbit focused exclusively on the movie's many New Zealand locations. In the seventh video, Jackson takes fans along for an inside tour of Stone Street Studio, where the soundstages for The Hobbit are housed. The video isn't just a tour of the production offices, but also breezes through the makeup, stunt, and costume departments.
Luke Evans, who plays Bard the Bowman, also gives a tour of the actors' trailers that includes most of the dwarf cast. For the more casual Hobbit fan, there's also plenty of snippets of actual shooting of the movie tucked into the video's 14 minutes, including a look at Martin Freeman dressed as Bilbo Baggins and being raced around the studio lot in a wheeled barrel.
The Hobbit was written by Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Reprising their roles from The Lord of the Rings trilogy are Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, and Sir Christopher Lee as Saruman. New additions include Sylvester McCoy as the wizard Radagast, Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel, Barry Humphries as the Goblin King, Stephen Fry as the Master of Lake Town, Mikael Persbrandt as the shape-shifter Beorn, Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the dragon Smaug, and Billy Connolly as Dain Ironfoot. Playing the dwarves are Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, Stephen Hunter as Bombur, Ken Stott as Balin, Graham McTavish as Dwalin, James Nesbitt as Bofur, William Kircher as Bifur, Jed Brophy as Nori, Adam Brown as Ori, Mark Hadlow as Dori, John Callen as Óin, Peter Hambleton as Glóin, Aidan Turner as Kili, and Dean O'Gorman as Fili.
An Unexpected journey will be released on December 19th, while the second part of the prequel, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will follow in 2013.
