Prometheus: New Viral Website and Video
06.12.12 by BrentJS
Without a set precedent for post-credits goodies like with all of Marvel Studios' movies, many moviegoers — us included! — stumbled out of the theater shortly after the final scene of Prometheus faded to black. But, those who did stay until the bitter end saw a link to a mysterious new viral website: "What Is 10.11.12?"
The site opens with the logo of Weyland Corp., the financier of the spaceship Prometheus' journey to discover the origin of life on Earth. Shortly after the logo fades out, the screen fills with a book, the cover of which bears a quote from German philospher Friedrich Nietzsche's novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None: "What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end." The site also includes a new viral video featuring the still-youthful Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) psyching himself up to give the TED speech we saw back in February, the video that effectively launched the viral campaign for the movie.
So, what does the quote and video have to do with "What Is 10.11.12?" We have no idea, but our guess is that's the release date of Prometheus on home video.
Prometheus was directed by Ridley Scott, from a screenplay written by Damon Lindelof (after Jon Spaihts). The cast includes Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw, Idris Elba as Janek, Michael Fassbender as David,Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers, Sean Harris as Fifield, Rafe Spall as Milburn, Logan Marshall-Green as Charlie Holloway, Kate Dickie as Mudow and Patrick Wilson as Shaw's father.
