Director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is busy trying to assemble the remaining cast for the upcoming sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Deadline first reported he had offered a role to Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Fresh off his Broadway run in Death of a Salesman, Hoffman was offered the part of Plutarch Heavensbee, the man who takes over as Head Gamemaster for Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley) in the televised death match called the Hunger Games. THR confirmed the offer yesterday, but there's no word on whether Hoffman has accepted the part.
Lionsgate is looking to start production on Catching Fire this September before Jennifer Lawrence has to work on the X-Men: First Class sequel. Based on Suzanne Collins' sequel novel, the script was written by Academy Award–winning screenwriters Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine). Lawrence takes over the director's chair from The Hunger Games' Gary Ross.
