If you're not quite up to speed on how director Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man (ASM) will differ from the trilogy of Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi, we have a great "sneak peek" featurette for you, courtesy of Walmart. More than seven minutes in length, the featurette primarily focuses on introducing new Peter Parker/Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, but most of the supporting cast — Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard, Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May — are also featured. In addition to summarizing the plot and offering a look behind the scenes of the production, the featurette includes some never-before-seen footage from the movie.
Also from Walmart comes an extended preview clip from the movie that seems ripped right from the pages of a Marvel comic book. In the clip, Spider-Man subdues a would-be car thief with equal parts webbing and witty repartee only to find himself staring down the barrel of a police officer's gun.
Here's the synopsis of the movie:
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone) and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance — leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
The Amazing Spider-Man was written by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent. Campbell Scott, Annie Parisse, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Embeth Davidtz and C. Thomas Howell also star.
