Fans of action movie sequels starring aging actors are in for a treat this year, with the release of The Expendables 2, and the latest poster promises explosions and war. We're not going to say you need to find both of those elements interesting to like the poster, but it doesn't hurt.
Expendables 2 gathers together the crew from the 2010 original — Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews — while adding new members Liam Hemsworth as sniper Billy the Kid and Yu Nan as Maggie, and giving expanded cameos to the returning Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis and newcomer Chuck Norris. Add in Jean-Claude Van Damme as the sequel's villain and you have the latest poster, with the cast standing in front of a giant explosion with the clever word-play tagline "Back for War," though, obviously, the sequel is also "back for more" as well.
In The Expendables 2, group of mercenaries gather are out for revenge when one of their own is killed during what was supposed to be an easy mission. There's also the matter of keeping six tons of weapons-grade plutonium from falling into the wrong hands, and audiences can expect plenty of action-movie grade repartee and plenty of guns and explosions — the exact things that made the original movie a success.
Stallone directed the first Expendables, but the sequel was helmed by Simon West (Con Air) and was written by Stallone, Richard Wenk (The Mechanic), Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys), and David Agosto. Scott Adkins co-stars as Van Damme's right hand man.
