Guy Pearce's Law Dog Steals Spotlight in New Trailer for Lawless

Director John Hillcoat's (The Road) new period crime movie, Lawless, is steeped in outlaw American history. The screenplay — written by Nick Cave (The Proposition), who also scored the movie — is based on Matt Bondurant's novel The Wettest County in the World, which he wrote after researching his own family's background as bootleggers in rural Virginia during the Great Depression. But, even though the bootlegging Bondurant brothers — Jack (Shia LaBeouf), Forrest (Tom Hardy) and Howard (Jason Clarke) — and their defiance of Prohibition are the subject of the movie, Guy Pearce gives such a commanding performance in the new trailer that Lawless should almost be about Charles Rakes, Chicago law dog.
Lawless also stars Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman as the primary antogonist, the gangster Floyd Banner. Mia Wasikowska Jessica Chastain and Dane DeHaan also star.
