Philip Seymour Hoffman Confirmed for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

After being offered a role in June, it looks like Philip Seymour Hoffman has decided to join the Hunger Games.
E! Online reported yesterday that Hoffman had officially signed on for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, the man who takes over as Head Gamemaker in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to this year's hugely successful The Hunger Games adaptation. "The deal was made right before the Fourth of July holiday," a source told the site. Studio Lionsgate has also confirmed Hoffman's casting as Heavensbee. Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley)
was the head gamemaker in The Hunger Games.
Taking over the director's chair from Gary Ross, Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is busy trying to assemble the remaining cast for Catching Fire so Lionsgate can start production on Catching Fire this September before Jennifer Lawrence has to work on the X-Men: First Class sequel. Jena Malone was recently offered the role of Johanna Mason in the sequel.
Based on Suzanne Collins' sequel novel, the script for Catching Fire was written by Academy Award–winning screenwriters Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) and Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine).
