Comic-Con Kicks Off with Preview Night; Character Posters from The Hobbit
07.12.12 by Chris
If Preview Night is any indication of what this year's Comic-Con is going to be like, then we're in for a wild weekend. Tens of thousands of people filled the Exhibit Hall of the San Diego Convention Center last night to get a taste of what exhibitors had in store for them for the four-day Con. Though several movie studios opted to skip Comic-Con this year, those studios that decided to come, came in full-force, including Warner Bros., Lionsgate, and Sony.
Of those, Warner Bros. definitely has the bigger slate of projects to promote, including Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises, The Campaign, and of course The Hobbit. The studio's exhibit included a little slice of Middle-Earth, a walk-through with movie props and new character posters from Peter Jackson's two-part Lord of the Rings prequel. We captured shots of the character posters. They were hard to shoot as they were holographic poster (and we're pretty sure we're missing a dwarf or two as we weren't able to take shots of everything with the massive amount of people in the hall). We're sure the studio will officially release the images online but until these shots will suffice.
In addition to Warner Bros.' offerings, Sony was on hand to show off Total Recall, Elysium, Looper and Hotel Transylvania, while Lionsgate had The Expendables 2, Warm Bodies, Dredd (which was screened for fans Wednesday night), and some movie about vampires (Breaking Dawn: Part 2).
Of course, the real news will come with these projects' respective panels but the studios (hopefully) had people buzzing about these upcoming movies with their presence at Preview Night.
