New Photos from the Set of Iron Man 3 Reveal 'Iron Man' Performing Aerial Rescue

Franchise star Robert Downey, Jr. took a short break from filming Iron Man 3 to attend the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, but production resumed on Monday in Wilmington, North Carolina. Thankfully, at least one photographer was on hand to capture the action.
The scene being shot appeared to involve a plane crash and aerial rescue by Iron Man, as more than a dozen or so actors were suspended from wires above the Cape Fear River for the scene. There's no way of knowing how important this scene will be to the plot of the movie, but several of the actors can be seen sporting uniforms from different branches of the military, which makes us think that the plane that went down might have been Air Force One. Attacking the President of the United States would be a pretty brazen move for the mysterious Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley) — especially in the post-Avengers Marvel Cinematic Universe, where the world knows there is a whole team of super-people out there to contend with — but it would certainly up the stakes from Iron Man and Iron Man 2, in which most of the villainous chaos was directed at Tony Stark/Iron Man himself.
