Warner Bros. Orders Reshoots for Gangster Squad After Colorado Shooting
07.23.12 by Chris
In Ruben Fleischer's upcoming Gangster Squad, a group of mobsters shoot up a packed theater from behind the screen. Before this weekend no one gave the scene a second thought but after Friday's Colorado theater massacre studio Warner Bros. is cutting the scene and is ordering reshoots to fill the hole. While the move is not unprecedented (studios have often altered movies after real-life tragedies) the move raises eyebrows as the movie has long wrapped up production and is set to open in less than two months.
It's unclear at this point if the reshoots will involve the movie's main cast, which includes A-listers like Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Nick Nolte.
Immediately following the shooting early Friday morning, Warner Bros. pulled the Gangster Squad trailer, which included the theater scene, that was attached to The Dark Knight Rises, according to Variety. Warner Bros. also pulled TV spots for The Dark Knight Rises over the weekend. The studio also declined to post weekend box office numbers "out of respect for the victims and families."
So what do you think of the studio's decision? Overreaction or is it the right move?
