The First Trailer for Bachelorette Is Ready to Party

"It's like a Jane Austen novel on crack."
Sure, a hard-R comedy with an ensemble cast of funny ladies focused around a wedding may seem so last year, but this first trailer for Bachelorette convinces us that the comedy covers new ground.
The movie is the debut directorial effort of Lesley Heyland, who also wrote the screenplay. Though the movie is bound to be compared to last year's Bridesmaids, that movie didn't really delve into the areas of wry sarcastic humor and drug use that this one seems to. Is that an improvement? Well, not necessarily, but they probably won't be the same movie any more than Growing Pains and Married with Children were basically the same television show, seeing as they both were '80s family sitcoms wherein much of the action took place in the living room.Something Old:
The wedding dress is irreparably damaged right before the wedding? Really? As good as this trailer is, we can't help but wonder exactly how many times that has been used as a plot device in a movie, TV show, or chick-lit novel.
Something New: Kirsten Dunst
cast in a non-period flick as something other than a manic pixie dream girl
? Finally! It's kind of refreshing to see her as the kind of chick that says "you don't even know
my day right now."
Actress Rebel Wilson
is probably best known for her role in Bridesmaids
, so that is something else that will cause people to draw comparisons between the two. Since she was absolutely hilarious in that movie, we're all for her starring in this new comedy.
Well, Lizzy Caplan
is wearing a blue dress, so it looks like this one has all of its good-luck tokens covered.
Next Showing: Bachelorette
opens in limited release on September 7.
