Big Wedding Trailer Results in Low Expectations

At least it has a great cast.
Sometimes, a romantic comedy with a generic title and an all-star cast can be sweet, funny, and a love letter to the genre itself, like Love Actually or Playing by Heart. Other times, it can be an insipid mess. The first trailer for Big Wedding leaves us apprehensive about which category this wedding-run-amok comedy will fall into.
Pretend marriages, cute dogs, awkward moments with exes, language barriers, husband-stealing "best friends," long lost family members, and kooky clergymen aren't exactly brand new in the world of movies about weddings, but maybe there will be a fresh take on some old material? With a cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, and Robert De Niro we can remain hopeful that this is an excellent movie that simply had an unfortunate, generic trailer cut for it.
Something Old: It feels like we've seen Katherine Heigl as this character in this movie before. Apparently we haven't, but it all feels very familiar.
Something Not Really New: The Big Wedding is a rather non-specific, all-inclusive sort of title, but early on in the movie's life, it was called Gently Down the Stream which sounds rather charming. Maybe the screenplay actually is original and fresh.
Someone Borrowed: Robin Williams as an unusual wedding officiant really is definitely something we've seen before, and License to Wed isn't even very old.
They Could Be Blue: It's possible the cast and crew are generally bummed about this first trailer making their awesome movie look mediocre at best. Otherwise, it'll be movie audiences that will be blue when they spend hard-earned money to watch this in the theater.
